Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if my child is not a good horseback rider?
A: Your child is still welcome to attend the Dude Ranch. We program to every riders abilities weather it is their 1st time on a horse or if they are an experienced rider! Each week of camp we will assess abilities regardless of riding levels. We will teach your child more about horses in one week of camp than a month of riding lessons! Your child will be placed in programs with other like riders based on his or her ability. There is more to our Dude Ranch than horseback riding!

Q: Will my child be able to experience other parts of Camp Harrison?
A: Campers will have the opportunity to choose traditional camp activities throughout their week at the Dude Ranch. Activities include sailing, zip lines, ropes courses, archery, lake activities and nightly bonfires.

Q: Where will my child sleep?
A: We are all about the fun, but a good night's sleep is necessary! We have beautiful air-conditioned log cabins that are fully equipped with showers and bathrooms. One night per week, dude ranchers will sleep in the Tee Pee Village under the stars. This will be the highlight of the week!

Q: Who are your counselors?
A: Our counselors are expert riders who have been trained and mentored by adults who live and work on the ranch. All staff are trained in First Aid/CPR and AED. We screen all applicants through an in-depth interview, reference check and background check through state and national authorities. Counselors are excellent mentors and role models who are focused on the needs of campers.

Q: What does a typical day look like on the Dude Ranch?
A: To start the day, we feed animals first, collect eggs and assess the farm. Next are morning chores and cleanup followed by devotion over breakfast. Ranchers will move through activities for the remainder of the day. Throughout the week they will experience horseback riding, trail exploration, goat pen fun, games, lake and pool activities, backpacking, picnicking, bonfires and more. There are crafts, games and many of Camp Harrison's traditional camp activities to fill the day as well. Your child will never be bored!
